Description

No. 17 St George’s Square is a low, two-storey cottage dating from 1671. The walls are of coursed rubble, with two windows featuring rusticated architraves and keystones. The windows are double-hung sashes with glazing bars. The ground floor includes one window and a six-panel door, also with a triple keystone. A 15th-century buttress, displaying moulded capping, is located at the east end of the building. A short, moulded string runs to the left of the buttress, and a half-stone arch of a wide span is built into the wall. The building is part of a group which also includes Nos. 1 to 7, Nos. 9 to 12, an outbuilding to No. 12 and Nos. 14 to 22. This group is furthermore linked with Nos. 25 and 26 St Mary’s Street.
