Description
No. 21 St George's Square is a house built in 1671, with its front elevation dating from 1772. It is constructed of ashlar and is slightly lower than No. 20. The building has two storeys and attics, featuring a moulded wood eaves cornice and a stone slate roof with two hipped dormers that contain casement windows. The front has four windows with plain stone frames and triple keystones, along with a stone band at the first-floor cills. To the left of the front is a part metal doorcase in the Greek Doric style, topped with an open mutule pediment. The door itself is well-crafted with three panels, one of which is carved, and it includes a rectangular glazed fanlight. There are also basement windows set into the plinth. At the rear, there is a notable balcony supported by cast iron pillars, which has a staircase leading down to the garden.
This building is part of a group that includes the Church of St George, Nos 1 to 7 (consecutive), Nos 9 to 12 (consecutive), the outbuilding to No. 12, and Nos 14 to 22 (consecutive). It also forms a group with Nos 25 and 26 St Mary's Street.
