Description
27 St Mary's Street is an early 19th-century building featuring three storeys constructed from coursed rubble with stone dressings and a plinth. It has a small modillion cornice and a low stone parapet that conceals a hipped roof covered in stone slates. The building is adorned with two stone stacks at the gable ends and five windows set in rusticated surrounds with triple keystones, with bands continuing to the cills. The windows are double-hung sashes with glazing bars. The central door consists of six panels and is framed by a plain stone surround with a keystone, topped by a rectangular fanlight featuring 'Gothic' traceried glazing bars. There is a passage entrance to the side, which has a moulded stone cornice and a rusticated round-headed arch over another plain door of six panels. This building shares a similar design with the Municipal Buildings at Nos 2 and 3 St Mary's Hill. The return front has four windows facing St George's Square. Nos 27 to 40 form a group.
