Description
No. 23 St Mary's Street is a building dating from around 1750. It stands two storeys high with attics, constructed in ashlar stone. The roof is covered with old slates and features three dormers: two gabled and one with a cambered shape. The building has an impressive eaves cornice decorated with dentils and egg and dart ornamentation. A stone stack is present, and the first-floor windows are adorned with moulded stone shouldered architraves that include triple keystones, with double-hung sashes featuring glazing bars. On the ground floor, there are two windows on each side of a central doorway, which is connected by a moulded plinth and cill. The central door is fielded and dates from the 19th century, set within an 18th-century doorcase that is flanked by Roman Ionic pilasters, topped with a plain frieze and pediment. This building is part of a group that includes Nos. 2 to 26 St Mary's Street.
