Description

No. 17 St George's Square is a house built around 1830-1840, located next to No. 18. The building is constructed of brick and features a symmetrical facade finished in painted stucco. It has a slate roof with coped parapets on the gables and the north elevation, along with two rear wall stacks that have oversailing details and pots. A timber trellis porch with a metal tented roof adds to its character.

The house has a double-depth plan with a central hallway that tapers to fit the corner site. There is a single-storey range at the rear that was extended to two storeys in the late 20th century. The building stands three storeys high and includes a cellar. The first floor has three windows, and the stucco detailing includes a frieze, cornice, blocking course, and coping, along with a continuous sill band for the first-floor windows. There are four plain pilasters, with the two at the ends being full-height and the two in the central bay extending from the sill band to the frieze.

The windows consist of 6/6 sashes on the first floor and the right side of the ground floor, 3/3 sashes on the second floor, except for the centre window which is blind. All windows are set in plain reveals with sills. A later addition on the left side of the ground floor features a clay-tiled hipped roof and windows with a combination of 2/1, 4/1, and 2/1 sashes, along with transomed and fixed lights above. The entrance door is a four-panel design with the top panels raised and fielded, the bottom pair being flush-beaded, and it has panelled reveals and a radial pattern fanlight with a fluted architrave. The interior has not been inspected.
