Description
12 and 13 St George's Square are two semi-detached houses built around 1830 to 1840, with later additions and alterations. They are constructed of brick with painted stucco dressings and feature a hipped slate roof, along with a party-wall stack that has oversailing detail and pots. The plan is double-depth, with later flanking entrance wings that are two stories high and set back from the main facade. There are also two-story service wings at the rear.
The exterior consists of three stories and a cellar, with four first-floor windows arranged in a 1:2:1 pattern. There are pilaster strips at the ends and center, connected by a string course at the eaves made of matching brick. The first-floor windows are 8/12 sashes, the second-floor windows are 4/8 sashes, and the ground-floor features an 8/16 sash window/door. The first-floor windows in the wings are 9/6 with semi-circular heads. All windows are set in plain reveals with rusticated arches, either semi-circular or flat, featuring projecting keystones. They all have sills, except for the ground-floor windows, which are accessed by two roll-edged steps. The double entrance doors are each made of two panels, with the upper part glazed and the lower part raised and fielded. These doors are topped by a fanlight with radial glazing bars and are set under a rusticated arch with a projecting fluted and capped keystone.
The interior has not been inspected. These houses are similar in design to Nos. 9 and 10 and 21 and 22 in St George's Square.
