Description
4 and 5 St George's Square are two semi-detached houses built around 1830 to 1840, with later additions and alterations. They are constructed of brick with painted stucco sills and feature a hipped slate roof. Each house has a party-wall stack on both the front and rear roof slopes, complete with oversailing detail and chimney pots.
The layout is double-depth, with entrances located in later side-wings that are set back from each return elevation. The wing on the west side (No. 4) is a single-storey structure, while the wing on the east side (No. 5) is two-storeys high. There are also two-storey service wings at the rear of the houses.
Both houses rise to three storeys and include a cellar. The first floor has two windows, featuring 6/6 sash windows on the first and ground floors, and 3/3 sash windows on the second floor. All windows have plain reveals with sills and flat gauged-brick arches. The entrance door is a four-panel design, topped with a fanlight that has radial glazing bars.
Additional features include louvered shutters on the ground-floor windows.
