Description
This is a barn located 5 meters southwest of Oaks Farmhouse, dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof, featuring quoins and kneelers. The south front has a segmental arched cart entry with tie-stone jambs. Above this entry is a Venetian window with a projecting sill, impost, and a false keystone. To the left, there is a mistal doorway with a quoined lintel and a chamfered surround. The left-hand return wall has a central doorway with a segmental arched lintel and a chamfered surround, above which are two rectangular ventilators with arched heads and a circular hole at the apex. The rear of the barn has a similar cart entry, with a doorway set within the re-entrant angle of the portal leading to a possible cottage or unheated dairy to the left. This cottage features a four-light chamfered mullioned window with an arched light above, supported by two corbels. It is possible that this cottage was used by seasonal workers during hay-making or sheep-shearing times.
