Description
The building is a barn, likely dating to the late 18th century, that was partially converted into cottages in the early 19th century and extended at that time. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. The barn is two and a half storeys high and has quoins at the corners. The south front features a segmental arched cart entrance with tie-stone jambs, impost blocks, and a dropped keystone carved with a human mask (the doorway is now blocked). A former cottage doorway has been altered to form a window. There are three flat-faced mullioned windows, each with two lights and slightly projecting sills. A doorway has monolithic jambs. The first floor has five windows, each with two lights. The left-hand return wall is built over the remains of an earlier farmhouse. The right-hand return wall is a wide gable with three bays of two-light windows, the central bay being extended to a third floor. It includes three doorways with tie-stone jambs. Two stacks are present. The rear elevation exhibits quoins marking the extension of the building, and a monolithic lintel above the cart entry supports a simple Venetian window. Doorways with monolithic jambs are situated to either side. The building's central core originally comprised both a barn and a mistal.
