Description
Lower Hathershelf consists of a pair of cottages built in 1743, along with a contemporary cottage added to the rear. The cottages are constructed from hammer-dressed stone and feature a stone slate roof. They are two storeys high and consist of two cells, each with a doorway that has monolithic jambs. The doorway on the right includes tie-stones and a lintel inscribed with "J S ll," which represents John and Sarah Normanton. The windows have plain stone surrounds and were originally mullioned with four lights on both floors. The building has quoins and a central stack on the ridge. The rear cottage has a gabled stack, a doorway with monolithic jambs, and flat-faced mullioned windows with two wide lights, along with a window of three lights above on the first floor. The cottages are listed for their group value.
