Barn To South East Of Frieldhurst Farmhouse

This is a barn located to the southeast of Frieldhurst Farmhouse, dating from the early 18th century. It is built from coursed rubble with hammer-dressed stone dressings and features a stone slate roof. The barn has half-aisles on both sides, with the east face displaying an aisle that projects forward from the main structure. The corners are marked by quoined angles and there is a kneeler present.

The doorway leading to the mistal has composite jambs and a quoined lintel topped with a basket arch and a chamfered surround. There is a square-headed cart entry with a heavy lintel, composite jambs, and a chamfered surround. To the right of this entry, there is a two-light flat-faced mullioned window.

On the west front, there is a segmental arched cart entry with composite jambs and a chamfered surround. The aisle on this side also breaks forward and features quoins, a kneeler, and a matching doorway on the east face. This doorway has an inscribed quoined lintel reading 'IMH 1721' set within a decorative tressure. Inside, the barn retains a queen strut truss above the cart entries.
