Description

Callis Lock, also known as Lock Number 13 on the Rochdale Canal, was built in 1798 by engineers W. Jessop and W. Crossley. The lock features large dressed stone retaining walls that have rebates for gates. It is designed to accommodate a double set of bottom gates, similar to Lock 10. The structure is topped with massive stone copings, and there are steps leading down to the lower water level at the northern end.
