Description

Number 12 is a house, now functioning as a nursery school, built in the mid-19th century and altered in the 20th century. It is constructed of brick with painted stone dressings and has a slate roof.

The building is two storeys high and has three bays. The outer bays feature two-storey canted bay windows that have a cornice between the storeys and are fitted with sashed windows that do not have glazing bars. The first-floor windows have a sill band, while the central window consists of sashes divided into large square panes. The central doorway is sheltered by a 20th-century lean-to porch with a roof made of corrugated sheeting. A modillioned gutter cornice extends around the bay windows, and there are chimneys on both the left and right sides.

The interior has not been inspected. The garden front wall is made of brick with a stone coping, and this wall returns on the left side, where it supports iron railings topped with cast finials. Number 12 is included for its group value as an integral part of this significant historic mid-19th century square.
