Description

Number 17 is a house built around 1847 to 1850, with some alterations made in the late 19th century. It is constructed of brick with painted stone dressings and has a slate roof. The building is three storeys high and features three bays. The right-hand bay has a single-storey canted bay window made of late 19th-century brick, topped with a slate roof. This window is sashed, except for the right-hand light, which has been modified to accommodate a door by lowering its sill. The remaining windows are all glazing bar sashes. The left-hand window on the ground floor is framed with an architrave and has an apron. The first-floor windows also have architraves and a sill band, while the second-floor windows feature segmental brick heads. The central doorway is highlighted by a pilaster doorcase with a modillion cornice, panelled reveals, and a six-panel door with an overlight. The cornice gutter is supported by timber brackets, and there are chimneys on both the left and right sides of the building. The interior has not been inspected. Attached to the right corner of the house is a low brick wall with ashlar coping and cast-iron railings, which enclose the front garden. This garden features a central gateway unit with two iron gateposts topped with ball finials.
