Description
Two houses, dating from around 1830, are located on The Mount in York. They are now offices. The construction is primarily brick with a slate roof. The exterior presents a four-bay front, with each house occupying two bays. The windows are glazing bar sashes, set within rubbed brick flat arches. Each house has a single, flat-roofed attic dormer. Number 73 features a single ground floor window, with a doorway to its right, both offset towards the right side. The doorway has engaged Doric columns, a triglyph frieze, and panelled reveals. The door itself has six raised and fielded panels, and a semicircular overlight with diagonal glazing bars. Two low cellar openings are visible in the front wall, with the right-hand one being blocked. A mutuled timber gutter cornice runs along the top of the building. The right-hand gable is coped. Chimneys are set between the houses and also shared on the left-hand side. The return gable wall of Number 75, facing Park Street, is three bays wide and incorporates glazing bar sash windows with rubbed brick flat arches. Blind recesses are present on the ground floor to the left and on the second floor to the right. A small, inserted window sits to the left of the first-floor window on the same return wall. The attic window is recessed with a segmental brick arch and has a central sash box. The central bay of Number 75 contains a doorway, which has a doorcase featuring engaged Doric columns, a triglyph frieze, and panelled reveals. The door has six raised and fielded panels, and a semicircular overlight. The interiors were not inspected.
