Description

Number 37 is a house that has been converted into a nursery school, built in the late 19th century. It features a limestone ashlar exterior and a hipped slate roof with two moulded axial ashlar stacks on the internal walls. The building has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high with a symmetrical three-window arrangement. Architectural details include a plain eaves band, a platband, pilasters, and a plinth. The ground floor has canted bays with cornices and pierced guilloche parapets above plain architraves with rounded corners and plate-glass sash windows. There are steps leading up to a four-panel door with an overlight and a shallow hood supported by brackets, situated below a two-over-two pane sash window. To the right on the first floor is a three-over-three pane sash window, while to the left is another plate-glass sash window. The interior has not been inspected. The front garden is enclosed by a low coped ashlar wall, with corner piers and gate piers topped with pyramidal caps. This house is part of a group of buildings on New Road that were constructed following the arrival of the railway in 1840-41.
