Description

Numbers 35 and 36 are a pair of semi-detached houses built in the mid-19th century. They are constructed from limestone ashlar and feature a hipped slate roof with moulded ashlar stacks on both the front and rear slopes over the party walls. The houses have a double-depth plan and are two storeys tall, forming a symmetrical block with a two-window range for each house. There are pilasters at the corners and along the party wall, and a continuous moulded string course that extends as shallow hoods on brackets at the outer ranges. The doors have overlights and the windows are from the 20th century. The interior has not been inspected. The houses also feature subsidiary elements such as incised panels and pyramidal caps on the piers that support low ashlar walls enclosing the front gardens. This pair is part of a group of houses on New Road that were built following the arrival of the railway in 1840-41.
