Numbers 16 And 17 And Attached Area Railings And Rear Garden Wall

Numbers 16 and 17 are an attached pair of houses built in the late 18th century. They are constructed of brick and render, featuring limestone dressings, with slate mansard and pantile hipped roofs. The houses have a double-depth plan and are designed in the late Georgian style. Each house has two storeys, a basement, and an attic, with a two-window range. The buildings have a coped parapet and gable ends, with doors on the outer sides that have brackets supporting pediments, plate-glass fanlights, and six-panel doors. Above the doors are semicircular-arched stair windows with five stepped voussoirs, and the windows include plate-glass and 6/6-pane sashes. At the rear, there are canted bays with flush frames. The interior has not been inspected. The property also features subsidiary elements such as railings and gates to the front basement areas, and an attached rear wall made of squared coursed rubble that fronts Spring Hill and Dove Street. This wall includes an ashlar pedimented doorway with a 20th-century door.
