Description

A pair of houses, dating from the mid-19th century, now used as two shops. The houses were built as part of a group in New Road, following the arrival of the railway between 1840 and 1841. They are constructed of limestone ashlar with a hipped slate roof and moulded ashlar stacks at the rear. Designed with a double-depth plan, each house has a symmetrical three-window facade. The exterior features eaves bands and pilasters to the corners and dividing wall. The first floor contains 6/6-pane sash windows; the centre windows have semicircular arches with radial cobweb glazing bars at the tops, and raised surrounds. Modern shop fronts project from the ground floor. The interior has not been inspected.
