Description
The Squire Restaurant is a pair of houses that have been converted into a restaurant, dating from the mid-19th century. The building is constructed from rendered limestone ashlar and features a shallow-pitched hipped concrete tile roof with an ashlar stack on the party wall. It has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys tall. The exterior presents a symmetrical four-window range block, with each house having a two-window range. Notable architectural details include an eaves band, pilasters at the corners and party wall, and 2/2-pane sash windows with margin panes, bracketed sills, and 20th-century shutters on the first floor. The outer ranges of the ground floor have 20th-century doors beneath shallow hoods supported by reeded brackets, while the center features 20th-century bow windows. The interior has not been inspected. This building is part of a group of houses on New Road that were constructed following the arrival of the railway in 1840-41.
