Description

This is a mid-19th century house, now in commercial use, located on New Road in Chippenham. It was built as one of a group of houses following the arrival of the railway in 1840-41. The house is constructed of limestone ashlar with a hipped slate roof and elaborate moulded ashlar stacks to the left and rear. It has a double-depth plan and a symmetrical facade of five windows across three bays. The exterior features a modillion cornice, plain architraves with rounded corners and plate-glass sash windows. The first-floor windows have eared-and-shouldered surrounds and bracketed sills, paired in the outer bays. The ground floor has canted bays with pierced guilloche parapet walls. The front door is a four-panel design, glazed to the top, set within a stone doorcase featuring engaged Corinthian columns supporting a cornice and blocking course. The interior of the house has not been inspected.
