Description
The New Inn is a mid-19th century inn located on New Road in Chippenham. It features painted stucco and has a shallow-pitched slate roof with a central brick ridge stack. The building has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys high with a two-window range. Notable exterior details include rusticated raised quoins and lintel bands, as well as raised surrounds to the 8/8-pane sash windows on the upper floors. To the left, there is a six-panel door with glazing at the top, and to the right, a single-storey canted bay with 20th-century glazing. The interior has been altered. The New Inn is part of a group of houses built on New Road following the arrival of the railway in 1840-41.
