Description

Number 30 is a house that has been converted into a doctor's surgery, dating from the mid-19th century. It is constructed of limestone ashlar and features a hipped slate roof with elaborately-moulded ashlar stacks on the left and rear. The building has a symmetrical double-depth plan and stands two storeys high with a three-window range.

The exterior includes a plinth, rusticated architraves, and a modillion cornice that returns halfway along the right side. There are two-storey canted bays with hipped roofs, and the ground floor plate-glass sash windows have plain architraves with rounded corners, along with cornices above them. The stone doorcase is notable for its engaged Corinthian capitals that support a cornice and blocking course, with a 20th-century door and overlight. Above the door, there is a window framed by a raised eared-and-shouldered surround. The right side features glazed double doors with margin panes and a cornice on consoles. The rear of the building has a double-pitched roof leading to a single-storey wing, which includes a wide segmental arch with a glazed tympanum, a flush four-panel door, and a two-light window with margin panes.

The front garden is enclosed by coped ashlar walls approximately one meter high, with piers that have pyramidal caps. This house is part of a group of residences built on New Road following the arrival of the railway in 1840-41.
