Description

The Old Road Tavern is a public house built in two stages during the early and late 19th century. It is constructed of limestone ashlar, with rustication to the front elevation, and has a slate roof with ashlar stacks to the gable ends and a former gable end now forming a ridgestack. The building follows a double-depth plan. Originally a symmetrical three-window range, it was later extended to a four-window range. Features include a platband, pilasters, and plain architraves. The upper floor has 6/6-pane sash windows, while the ground floor has 2/2-pane sashes. A more recent addition on the right-hand side includes 20th-century double doors. A projecting porch to the original section has small windows to the front and late 19th-century four-panel doors on either side. The interior retains some early 19th-century six-panel doors and a late 19th-century slate fireplace.
