Description

Number 45 is a house that is now part of a school, built in the late 19th century but incorporating elements from 1748 and around 1800. The building is constructed of brick in Flemish bond with some stone details and has a hipped slate roof.

It stands four storeys above cellars and features three bays. The windows are sashed and do not have glazing bars. On the ground floor, there is a single window divided into three lights by mullions that resemble banded columns. Brick pilasters on either side support a stone frieze and cornice. The upper storey windows have segmental brick arches, with the central window on the first floor being wider and divided into four sashes. The windows on the second and third floors have a central division. A corbel table is present at the eaves.

To the left of the facade, there are painted alternating stone quoins that extend to the level of the second-floor window heads, which are remnants of a terrace built in 1748 that included Number 39 and Number 45. The doorcase in the left bay also appears to date from this time and seems to be reused; it features an architrave, an enriched frieze, a pediment on console brackets, and panelled reveals. The door itself has six panels and a plain rectangular overlight.

The basement area is enclosed by plain iron railings on stone copings.
