Description
This canal milestone, dating from around 1827, was created for the Macclesfield Canal Company. It is made of ashlar sandstone with tooled edges and features a shaped top. The south face is inscribed with "From / Marple / 19 Miles," while the north face reads "From / Hall Green / 7 1/4 Miles," although the latter inscription is slightly defaced. This milestone is part of a notable series of milestones and distance markers, including bridges, along the Macclesfield Canal.
