Description

Bridge Number 63 on the Macclesfield Canal, built around 1827, is an accommodation bridge designed by engineer William Crosley. It is constructed from coursed tooled sandstone blocks with ashlar dressings. The bridge features a horseshoe arch with an elliptical head, made up of voussoirs and a prominent stressed keystone that connects to a chamfered ashlar band beneath the parapet. The battered walls of the bridge end in squared piers, and there is coping along the parapet. This bridge is part of a series of notable bridges and milestones along the Macclesfield Canal.
