Description

Bridge Number 59 on the Macclesfield Canal is an accommodation bridge built around 1830, designed by engineer William Crosley. It is constructed from coursed sandstone blocks with ashlar dressings. The bridge features a horseshoe-shaped, elliptical arch made of voussoirs and has a prominent keystone that rises to a chamfered band located below the parapet. The walling ends in squared piers, and the parapet is topped with coping. This bridge is part of a series of notable bridges and milestones along the Macclesfield Canal.
