Description
Big Fenton is a very interesting farmhouse dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. It features a timber frame with painted brick or plaster infilling. The building has been restored and includes later casement windows, which are generally in poor condition, as well as an original heavy oak door. The roof is covered with "black & white" Staffordshire tiles, although this is not the original material.
Inside, there is much exposed original timbering, including a beamed ceiling in the living room, several oak doors with wood latches, and a small plain staircase. Of particular interest is a confession closet located at the north end of the ground floor, and above this, on the first floor, is a small chapel with old inscriptions painted on the walls.
