Description
Bridge Number 57 on the Macclesfield Canal, built around 1830, is an accommodation bridge designed by engineer William Crosley. It is constructed from coursed sandstone blocks with ashlar dressings. The bridge features a horseshoe or elliptical arch made of voussoirs, with a prominent keystone that rises to a chamfered band at deck level. The walls end in squared piers, and the coping on the parapet is incomplete. Below the bridge, there are remnants of cobbles on the towpath. This bridge is part of a series of notable bridges and milestones along the Macclesfield Canal.
