Macclesfield Canal Bosley Lock Number 10 And Lock Pound

Bosley Lock Number 10 and Lock Pound is a canal lock built in 1831, designed by engineer William Crosley. The lock features rusticated red gritstone walls, with ashlar stone used for the spillway. The upper end of the lock basin is semi-circular, and there is a stepped quadrant retaining wall on the bank to the west of the lock, along with a flight of stone steps to the east. A cambered footbridge made of cast iron spans the lock entrance, which has a later addition of plain tubular steel railings. The upper and lower pairs of lock gates have been replaced with mild steel. There are curved wing walls on both sides of the canal above and below the lock, and a stone-walled rectangular pound is located to the west of the lock.
