Macclesfield Canal Bosley Lock Number 8 And Lock Pound

Bosley Lock Number 8 and Lock Pound is a canal lock built in 1831, designed by engineer William Crosley. The lock features rusticated red gritstone walls, with ashlar used for the spillway. The upper end of the lock basin is semi-circular. To the west of the lock, there is a stepped quadrant retaining wall, and to the east, a flight of stone steps. A cambered footbridge made of cast iron spans the lock entrance, which has a later addition of a plain tubular steel rail. The upper pair of lock gates is made of mild steel, while the lower pair is timber. Above the lock, there are curved wing walls, and below, straight walls lead to Bridge Number 56. Additionally, there is a stone-walled rectangular pound located to the west of the lock.
