Description

Bridge Number 56 is a farmland access bridge over the Macclesfield Canal, built in 1831 and designed by engineer William Crosley. It is constructed of reddish-buff ashlar gritstone and features a horseshoe elliptical arch. The bridge has battered abutments that are curved in plan, with square end piers. At road level, there is a plain string course, and the bridge is topped with stone parapets that have plain copings.
