Description
Bosley Lock Number 7 and Lock Pound is a canal lock built in 1831, designed by engineer William Crosley. The lock features rusticated red gritstone walls, with ashlar stone used for the spillway. The upper end of the lock basin is semi-circular. To the west of the lock, there is a stepped quadrant retaining wall, and to the east, a flight of stone steps. A cambered footbridge made of cast iron spans the lock entrance, which has a later addition of plain tubular steel railings. The upper pair of gates is made of timber, while the lower pair has been replaced with mild steel. The lock is flanked by curved wing walls both above and below, and there is a stone-walled rectangular pound located to the west of the lock.
