1/18 Bosley Lock Number 5 and Lock Pound
GV II
Canal lock, 1831, William Crosley engineer. Rusticated red gritstone walls to lock, ashlar to spillway. Semi-circular upper end to lock basin. Stepped quadrant retaining wall to bank west of lock; flight of stone steps to east. Cambered footbridge of cast iron across lock entrance with later plain tubular steel rail. Upper replaced pair of lock gates of mild steel, lower of timber. Curved wing walls to canal above lock, straight walls below to Bridge number 55, q.v. Stone-walled rectangular pound west of lock. (Note: Lock number 6 is in North Rode C.P.).
