Description
Bosley Lock Number 3 and Lock Pound is a canal lock built in 1831, designed by engineer William Crosley. The lock features rusticated red gritstone walls, with ashlar used for the spillway. The upper end of the lock basin is semi-circular. To the west of the lock, there is a stepped quadrant retaining wall, and to the east, a flight of stone steps. A cambered footbridge made of cast iron spans the lock entrance, which has a later addition of plain tubular steel railings. The lock is equipped with two pairs of late 20th-century mild steel lock gates. Curved wing walls made of stone are present above and below the lock, along with a stone-walled rectangular pound located to the west of the lock.
