Description
This is a canal road bridge, known as Bridge Number 61, built around 1831 and designed by engineer William Crosley. It is constructed from coursed sandstone blocks with ashlar dressings. The bridge features a horseshoe or elliptical arch made of voussoirs, with a prominent keystone that rises to a chamfered band just below the parapet. The walls of the bridge end in squared piers, and the parapet has coping. There are 20th-century stone steps nearby, which include timber balustrading. A pipeline runs across the west face of the bridge. The vault displays fine tooling. This bridge is part of a series of notable bridges and milestones along the Macclesfield Canal.
