Description
Bridge Number 64 on the Macclesfield Canal is an accommodation bridge built around 1827, designed by engineer William Crosley. It is constructed from coursed sandstone blocks with ashlar dressings. The bridge features a horseshoe arch with an elliptical head, made up of voussoirs and a prominent keystone that rises to a chamfered band located just below the parapet. The battered walls of the bridge end in squared piers, and there is coping on the parapet. Additionally, there is a wooden stop plank structure associated with the bridge, dating from the 20th century. This bridge is part of a series of notable bridges and milestones that remain on the Macclesfield Canal.
