Description
Bridge Number 66 on the Macclesfield Canal is an accommodation bridge built around 1827, designed by engineer William Crosley. It is constructed from coursed tooled sandstone blocks with ashlar dressings. The bridge features a horseshoe arch with an elliptical head, made up of voussoirs and a prominent keystone that rises to a chamfered ashlar band at deck level. The battered walls end in squared piers, and there is coping on the parapet. This bridge is part of a notable series of bridges and mileposts that still exist along the Macclesfield Canal.
