Description

Holmhurst, also known as White Gables, is a former house now divided into three dwellings, built around 1835, incorporating elements from an earlier timber-framed structure likely dating to the mid-17th century. The building is finished in stucco and has two storeys. It features two projecting gabled bays, each with two windows, and a central section with one window and a gable. There is a porch beneath a slate lean-to roof, which includes two doorways with doors that have semi-circular headed glazed panels. The end bays each have a canted bay window that extends over two storeys, topped with gabled and pointed roofs. The gabled ends are adorned with ornamental barge-boards, some of which are crowned with iron finials. A small modern porch bay is set back on the right-hand side. The central part of the building retains elements of the earlier timber-framed house, including ceiling beams that are now encased, and a fine oak staircase featuring turned balusters and square newels with large ball-head finials.
