Description

This canal milestone, dating from around 1827, was created for the Macclesfield Canal Company. It is made of ashlar sandstone, shaped at the top and finished with tooled sides. The south face of the milestone is inscribed with "From / Marple / 20 Miles," while the north face reads "From / Hall Green / 6 1/4 Miles." This milestone is part of a notable series of milestones and distance markers, including bridges, along the Macclesfield Canal.
