Description

Canal milestone, dating from around 1830, for the Macclesfield Canal Company. It is made of ashlar sandstone, with the sides tooled and the top shaped. The south face of the milestone reads: "From / Marple / 25 miles," while the north face reads: "From / Hall Green 4 1/4 Miles." This milestone is part of a notable series of milestones and distance markers, as well as bridges, along the Macclesfield Canal.
