Description

This canal milestone, dating from around 1830, was created for the Macclesfield Canal Company. It is made of ashlar sandstone, which is tooled on the sides and shaped at the top. The north face of the milestone displays the inscription: "From/ Hall Green/ 17 1/4 Miles," while the south face reads: "From / Marple/ 9 Miles." This milestone is part of a series of notable milestones and distance markers, as well as bridges, along the Macclesfield Canal.
