Description

Cold Arbour Farmhouse is a former farmhouse that has origins dating back to the 16th century, with additions from the 17th century and alterations made in the mid-18th century. The building is constructed of coursed, squared buff sandstone rubble and features a Kerridge stone-slate roof, a stone ridge, and both a brick and a stone chimney. It has an L-shaped plan with an internal cross passage and a former farm building to the right.

The north front is two stories high and has three bays. It features rough stone cambered heads with a prominent keystone in the end bays. The lower storeys have 4-light fixed small pane iron casements, along with smaller 6-light openings. There is a similar blocked opening above to the left. Near the center, there is an 8-panelled door, partly decorated with moulded hexagons, set under a stone lintel. Above this door is a mullioned and transomed iron window with small panes, also under a cambered stone head. To the left, the gabled parlour wing has been extended to the barn and includes a small circular light.

Inside, the rooms to the left of the cross passage feature exposed small-framed timber partitions. The main room has a massive chamfered beam with carved stops, while other rooms have lighter chamfered beams with flat stops. There is a mid-18th century turned baluster stair in the cross passage and part of a stone ladder leading to the former hayloft.
