Description
Hollins Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in 1885, particularly to the porch. The building features a brick nogged timber frame and painted brickwork, topped with a tiled roof. It has an "L" shaped plan, is two storeys tall, and has a two-bay entrance front with a three-bay west return at the north end. The structure includes a stone plinth, close studding with a middle rail, and a jettied first floor with shaped console ends on some of the first floor studs. There is a chevron treatment at the first floor level, along with shaped studs and quadrant features between the ground floor and first floor windows. A projecting gable-end at the north-east corner has a slightly jettied gable. The original windows have been replaced with four- and five-light flush casements. On the east side, there is a gabled timber framed porch featuring the initials IRA FMA and the date 1885 in the apex. This porch leads to a half-glazed four-panel door, which has bead and butt panels below, set in a chamfered frame with a rectangular overlight. The windows on this side are two- to three-light flush casements, located in gabled dormers at the first floor level. The farmhouse also has tall rebuilt brick stacks. Inside, there are ovolo moulded and stop bevelled beams, ledged and battened doors, some of which are on strap hinges, as well as 19th-century four-panel doors.
