Description

Hermitage Bridge is a bridge over the River Dane, built in 1772, as indicated by the date carved into the parapet. It is constructed of red sandstone coursed rubble and features a single segmental arch. The bridge has a projecting carriageway that is faceable with the parapet. The humped carriageway is paved with stone setts. The approach parapets are splayed out and do not have end piers, while the copings of the parapet are deeply bevelled. The initials "IA" and the date are prominently carved into the south end of the east parapet.
