Description

This is a cottage dating back to around 1764, although it is likely a reconstruction of a late 17th-century building. It is constructed with a timber frame filled with brick, and has a slate roof. The cottage is single-storied with an attic, and originally had two bays. It features a brick plinth, approximately one metre high, and the timbers are arranged in a small framing pattern on the front and gable ends. The front door is of oak, divided into three panels with vertical beads, and the windows are replaced three-light casements without glazing bars. There are attic windows in the gables. A stone tablet above the door is inscribed with the initials “T.B.H.” and the date 1764. Decorative bargeboards with finials adorn the gables, and a central chimney stack is present. The interior retains features such as bevelled beams, exposed ceiling joists, and exposed chamfered purlins in the bedrooms. A flat-roofed addition has been added to the rear, south side, in the 20th century.
