Description

Bridge Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in 1768, as indicated by a stone tablet at the eaves, although it has origins dating back to the late 17th century. The building is constructed of red brick in stretcher bond and features a roof made of slates laid in diminishing courses along with handmade tiles. It is two storeys high and consists of four bays. The windows are mainly three-light flush casements with central glazing bars, stone sills, and segmental arches with turning pieces on the ground floor, as well as in gabled dormers on the first floor. The entrance has a boarded door set in a heavy frame, which is sheltered by an early 19th-century gabled brick porch that has a segmental arch and barge boards. The stone tablet at the eaves is inscribed with the initials T.B.H. and the date. At the rear, the original oak wallplate is visible, and the rear roof slope is covered with old slates. There is an added brick outshut made of red brick, featuring slates of constant size. The gables and dormers have gable barge boards and blue clay ball finials. The chimney stacks are set back one bay from the gable ends, and the roof has old saddleback ridge tiles. Inside, the farmhouse includes deep bevelled and stop-chamfered beams, an inglenook beam, and boarded doors on HL hinges. On the first floor, there are wide boarded doors on strap hinges in heavy dowelled frames, along with exposed bevelled purlins.
