Description
Hawthorne Cottage is a mid-17th century cottage that features a later added cross wing. The structure has a brick nogged timber frame and was originally thatched, but now has a corrugated sheet roof. It is a single-storey building with an attic and consists of two bays. The timber framing includes a small arrangement with a seven-panel facade and a four-panel gable, and small casement windows are set into the frame panels. The entrance is located in the gable end of the brick cross wing on the east side. Some wattle and daub is exposed in the west gable, and there is a central brick stack.
Inside, the cottage has exposed beams and ceiling joists, as well as an inglenook beam. The original purlins and thatch rafters are also present.
The linked brick wing, which completes a "T" shaped plan, is noted to have no special interest.
