Description

Swan Farmhouse is a late 17th-century farmhouse located on Knutsford Road in Cranage. It is constructed of brown brick and whitened old brick, topped with a stone slate roof that is laid with diminishing courses. The building has two storeys and an attic, featuring three bays, and includes a two-span wing at the rear, creating an "L" shaped plan.

The entrance boasts a six-panel door, with the upper three panels raised, fielded, and bolection moulded, while the lower panels are bead and flush. This door is set in a chamfered frame with a central mullion overlight. The windows are two-light flush casements with glazing bars, and there is a projecting brick band at the first floor level. The rear door is cross boarded and fitted to a heavy dowelled frame with strap hinges. The farmhouse has gable end and mid-ridge stacks.

Inside, the property features two-panel Jacobean style doors and wide boarded doors on strap hinges, along with an inglenook fireplace. The ceilings have chamfered beams, including a cross beam arrangement in the parlour. A Jacobean style staircase showcases spiral turned balusters, double width newel posts, and a heavy moulded handrail. On the first floor, there are single and two-panel doors on strap hinges, with more chamfered beams. The attic contains collar trusses, oak chamfered purlins, a ridge tree, and original rafters.
